Meet our Bloggers
Beth Kwapis, Museum Coordinator Dream Title: Connoisseur of Human Folly Beth is: more voyeur than exhibitionist and is thus completely terrified to be sharing her thoughts via blog. That is no joke! I love mid-century Modern anything and I want to adopt 1-4 dachshunds with my husband (he remains ambivalent on the subject). Originally from the Detroit area, I am currently flirting with becoming a pescetarian because all one's protien needs can be met with the incredible sushi I'm discovering in San Diego. I basically snagged this job by coming into the Museum and begging the kind front desk staff to pass on my resume. I am not sure how I've managed to keep it. Carissa Baird, Museum Clerk Dream Title: Your Awesomeness Carissa is: an art lovin', fro wearin', burrito eatin', red wine drinkin', world travelin', movie watchin', girl with the small wrist tattoo. A political, sociological, feminist, (wannabe) artist, thinker, thrill-seeker, reader, and tiny dancer. A laid-back lady who left her heart in San Francisco--but came back with a college degree, and (future) pet whale in Antarctica--but he doesn't know I'm coming to claim him yet. I got this job because I have cool shoes, but I've kept it because I work with cool people. I'd rather be road trippin'. I eat boys and blogs for breakfast. Oh, and I love cliche's. GO CHARGERS!

Meditative Motions and Furry Fruit
Some of our Museum programs are fast, paced packed with high energy hustle and bustle. As a driven and competitive person running around solving problems and watching the commotion, I enjoy these programs very much. With that said I often forget to slow down and enjoy things that do not include instant gratification or neon lights. This past Saturday not only did I get to revel in rediscovering my quiet side while being taught how to make soft sculpture by Marisol Rendon, but I also met a handful of wonderful artistic women in the process. To the plethora of Amy’s, Constance, Marisol, Beth and Olivia, thank you for coming, it was a great Saturday! I have a sneaking suspicion my small Hobbit hole apartment will slowly be filled with little felt sculptures of funny things. Here are some images of our fruit and vegetable making day.

Leveled, Opening Night
Can we say a busy whirl wind of creativity! There were playful, imaginative and fun filled people bursting from every seam. I can’t say enough how lucky I feel to have worked with the four artists in the show and how grateful I am to our prep crew. In addition none of this would have even happened if not for our Museum Director Olivia Luther and President Vicky Basehore, who supported and approved my wacky idea. I can’t thank you enough. And to all 600 of you who came, thank you, it was sublime watching the interaction begin! I can’t wait to see what the next few months hold in store for us. So for all of you that missed it, or all of you that went and want to relive it again here are some photos of Leveled’s opening night.

The Dulcimoon is Born
For her work Tec Tang Tarab, specifically the Tarab element, Doris Bittar in collaboration with Diane Gage and Jonathan Glasier created a one of a kind instrument which they have named the Dulcimoon. Within Tec Tang Tarab you will be able to slide an elegantly designed, richly colored blue metal panel across the wall from left to right and right to left which will pass over the Dulcimoon plucking its strings to create sound. Below is a link to a youtube video Doris and Jonathan made that gives you a sneak peak of the Dulcimoon.

End of a long week…. beginning of another.
This week was amazing. We saw huge fabric sculptures hoisted into the ceiling. I took my first nap in Wes’ fort and crawled through its maze of rooms to see the delicately intimate items that are starting to fill it’s insides, Ingram rode his ‘green’ tricycle for the first time in the Tower Gallery, kick starting the process of installing his large scale green paintings. I gave a behind the scenes tour to a select group of Center Members [want to become one, click here] and so so much more.
These things have amounted to a magnificent balance of creative, buzzing energy paired with a restful atmosphere where all ideas are welcome. The works have hit a point where you can see the end and it feels good. With that said this is just the beginning, there are still plenty of surprises ahead…
